MIDI Toolset 001 by Manifest Audio

MIDI Tools introduce an innovative new category of creative devices in Live 12, designed to accelerate workflow, inspire creativity, and unlock new musical possibilities. The inaugural MIDI Toolset includes four MIDI Generators and eight MIDI Transformers, each offering unique features to enhance your production process.

MIDI Generators:

  • Metaflux: Generate compelling melodies and chords using seven different randomisation algorithms.

  • Metarhythm: Push the boundaries of rhythmic expression with complex polyrhythms.

  • Metasketch: Intuitively draw intricate musical gestures for flexible composition.

  • Metapath: Shape new melodic contours and explore uncharted musical territories.

MIDI Transformers:

  • Euclidifier: Impose unique rhythmic patterning on existing sequences.

  • Fluctuator: Add dramatic variations to your MIDI patterns.

  • Inebriator: Introduce subtle, unpredictable changes for a more organic feel.

  • Mutator: Use note activation to rapidly generate new pattern variations.

  • Octavator: Randomise transpositions by octave for diverse tonal shifts.

  • Swinger: Apply per-note shuffle timing for a dynamic, groove-based feel.

  • Tether: Randomly add note ties for smoother transitions between notes.

  • Tilter: Adjust chance, velocity, and length based on key scaling and pitch.

All MIDI Tools are scale-aware and include Info View annotations for a seamless creative experience.

Please note: MIDI Tools are not yet supported on Push 3, and Live 12's included MIDI Tools are also not functional on it. Once support is available, we will ensure full compatibility with Push 3.

Format, Version & System Requirements

Ableton Live 12.x running Max for Live 8.6.x on Mac or PC.

Where should I install my MIDI Tools?

Your Live 12 User Library should include a folder called MIDI Tools, and that’s the best spot to store them. If you don’t see that folder there by default, no worries — you can manually add it yourself.

Once the MIDI Tools are in there, give Live a minute or so to detect them. After a minute or so, they should appear in the corresponding MIDI Tool panel of Live’s MIDI clip note editor.

Please note: MIDI Tools are not the same as devices: they work directly in the note editor and cannot be dragged onto tracks like devices can.
